Don’t Miss Your Tax Deadline If You Requested An Automatic Extension Earlier This Year

You needed more time to prepare your federal tax return? Fine, now it’s the time to file, as long as you requested before April 18, 2022 an automatic extension of time to file your U.S. individual income tax return. The IRS encourages taxpayers to file electronically ASAP. However, there may be an exception if you’re living out of the country. See Pub. 54 for more information.

Total Time Allowed

Generally speaking, the IRS can’t extend the due date of your return for more than 6 months (October 17, 2022, for most calendar year taxpayers), explained Daniel Ahart, chief tax officer at the tax preparation company Daniel Ahart Tax Service®
